Windsor Heights was  incorporated as a city on July 19, 1941. It was named for nearby Windsor Elementary School in Des Moines; the school was named for early settler Henry Clay Windsor, whose family donated land for the school.

Windsor Heights Iowa Real Estate

Windsor Heights is a landlocked suburb with essentially no undeveloped areas: thus, there is relatively little new housing stock available. However, Windsor Heights is such a desirable location that many families buy the older homes and update them because they want the Windsor Heights community. There are many very well built brick ranch style houses in Windsor Heights as well as traditional Des Moines type two-story homes.
